BSH – glue-laminated timber – is a highly advanced wood product, used wherever the highest strength parameters, high aesthetics and dimensional stability are required. BSH is an alternative to other structural materials such as steel or reinforced concrete. Glue-laminated timber is a structural material created by gluing together multiple layers of boards (usually 40mm thick) made of high-quality wood, called lamellas. The production process begins with careful chamber drying of coniferous wood lamellas to 15% moisture content. The dried lamellas are planed on four sides, then visually or mechanically sorted into predefined strength classes. All wood imperfections, such as large knots or bark inclusions, are automatically marked and removed in the process.
Increased durability
No structural weak points
Resistance to twisting and cracking
Precise joining of beams up to 12m long
Increased thermal resistance
Uniform, aesthetic appearance
Reduced amount of waste
The wood used to glue homogeneous layers is very carefully sorted. This process aims to eliminate defective elements that could significantly weaken the structure. The carefully selected product has twice the strength compared to typical raw construction timber. The strength of BSH timber is influenced by the following factors:
HIGH SHAPE STABILITY
Wood keeps working over time after assembly - this is an inherent feature of typical raw material used in construction. It shrinks, deforms or cracks along the grain. Due to maintaining uniform moisture content, glue-laminated timber has much better properties compared to solid wood: it does not warp and cracks minimally.
FIRE RESISTANCE
Glue-laminated timber is characterized by very high fire resistance and is an absolutely safe material, contradicting stereotypes about the flammability of wood itself. When an element is not directly in the fire, the flame extinguishes itself. Additionally, the charred outer layer protects the inner layers of the structural element from destruction, thus ensuring long fire resistance. The inner part of the wooden cross-section retains its load-bearing capacity for a long time, even in a building affected by fire.
INSULATING PROPERTIES
Glue-laminated timber has a very low thermal conductivity coefficient, which makes it perform very well at both high and low temperatures. It ensures thermal comfort.
RESISTANCE TO AGGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENTS
Water- and weather-resistant adhesives are used in the production of glue-laminated timber. This is why it is successfully used for structures directly exposed to weather conditions.
HIGH ECOLOGICAL AND AESTHETIC VALUES
Humans have used wood for centuries, as it is the most natural building material. In load-bearing structures, glue-laminated timber serves as the main structural element, but also gives the whole building a unique character. Wood adds visual warmth and light to buildings. Houses made of glue-laminated timber are healthy, durable, environmentally friendly and create a unique atmosphere and pleasant, moody climate.
